Keeping Surgery Safe


2017 marked the culmination of a five-year project that led to the state’s hospitals becoming a national model for safe surgery. By  implementing the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist, SC hospitals improved outcomes and made  headlines.

Building a Healthier Capitol


SCHA’s “A Healthier State House” campaign continued this year as we worked to engage state legislators, lobbyists and staff to improve wellness and make the South Carolina State House a healthier place to work, play and govern.

Working with Data


This year SCHA began developing Data Environmental Scans for our member hospitals. Each provides high-level data points in three focus areas – community building, reliability and workforce – that help streamline what resources and support SCHA can offer.

Growing SCHA Solutions


SCHA Solutions continued its mission in 2017 to help hospitals access quality products and services while enhancing revenue and cutting costs. We brought on new partners and realigned our sponsorship program to better serve our members.

Pursuing Zero Harm


Our Certified Zero Harm Awards program continues to recognize hospitals who are providing safe, highly reliable care. In 2017, South Carolina hospitals won a record-breaking 119 awards for extended periods of zero harm as certified by DHEC.

Representing SC in DC


From the American Health Care Act to the Graham-Cassidy  proposal, SCHA and its members fought to protect access to care and preserve the safety net that so many South Carolinians rely on every day. When our voices are united, we can make a difference.

Improving Stroke Care


Our award-winning statewide stroke awareness campaign “How to Spot a Stroke F.A.S.T.” used social media-oriented videos,  still advertising, and an educational website to increase public awareness of the signs of stroke.

Connecting Behavioral Health


South Carolina’s hospitals identified behavioral health as a major priority for building healthier communities. This year we were excited to launch the South Carolina Behavioral Health Coalition (SCBHC) and bring together statewide partners to address this critical issue.
